GENERAL POLICY

Just Fire Doors Ltd is committed to improving its environmental performance by complying with relevant guidance and regulation and by adopting modern methods of environmental management and sustainable development to improve environmental performance, wherever practicable.

AIM OF THIS POLICY

The aim of this policy is to enable this organisation to:

  • reduce its impact on the environment

  • ensure compliance with environmental legislation and regulations

  • ensure the effectiveness of its environmental management system

  • reduce its use of energy and resources

  • minimise its waste

  • reduce unforeseen environmental risks

  • reduce carbon emissions associated with business operations and activities.

The directors of this company are accountable for the effectiveness of its EMS and will commit the resources necessary to:

  • meet or exceed the requirements of all environmental legislation under which they are obligated

  • take all essential measures to prevent pollution

  • maintain the continual improvement of its environmental performance through the regular review of its management system

  • support continual carbon reduction initiatives and sustainable working practices throughout the organisation.

ENVIRONMENT POLICY STATEMENT

Just Fire Doors is committed to protecting and enhancing the environment and to improving the quality of life for people both now and in the future. By minimizing the impacts of our activities, we will contribute to the improvement of the global environment

through local action and will deliver sustainable development by recognizing the links between the environment, people and our economy.

It is our business aim and policy to meet all registration requirements and meet or exceed compliance with all environmental legislation that relates to our business. We will seek continuous improvement in our environmental performance and management through regular (at least annual) review and revision of this policy; and recognize the need to provide the resource required to make this policy and our arrangements effective.

As part of our environmental commitment, Just Fire Doors recognises the importance of reducing greenhouse gas emissions and limiting the environmental impact of our operations. We are committed to implementing practical carbon reduction measures across our surveying, maintenance and installation activities and to continually improving our environmental performance through responsible operational management.

CARBON REDUCTION PLAN

Just Fire Doors is committed to reducing the carbon emissions generated through its business activities wherever reasonably practicable. The company recognises that vehicle travel, energy consumption, material usage and waste generation are the primary environmental impacts associated with our operations.

To support our commitment to carbon reduction and sustainable business practices, we will:

  • monitor and review fuel usage, energy consumption and operational activities to identify opportunities for carbon reduction

  • reduce unnecessary travel through effective scheduling, route planning and use of remote communication where appropriate

  • maintain company vehicles to ensure optimal fuel efficiency and reduced emissions

  • consider the introduction of lower-emission and electric vehicles where operationally feasible

  • reduce energy consumption within offices, storage facilities and work locations through efficient lighting, heating and equipment management

  • encourage digital reporting, electronic record keeping and paperless administration wherever possible

  • minimise waste from installation and maintenance activities through reuse and recycling initiatives

  • work with suppliers and contractors who demonstrate responsible environmental practices and sustainable procurement policies

  • raise awareness among employees and subcontractors regarding environmentally responsible working practices and carbon reduction objectives

  • review carbon reduction opportunities annually as part of the organisation’s continual improvement programme.

 

Just Fire Doors supports the UK Government’s objective of achieving Net Zero carbon emissions by 2050 and will continue to develop practical and achievable measures to reduce the environmental impact of its operations.

TO MEET THE AIMS OF THIS POLICY WE ARE COMMITTED TO:

  • Critical examination of the impact that our policies and programmes have on the environment and timely actions to minimise these impacts

  • Integration of environmental best practice in corporate and specific policies where appropriate

  • Continual improvement in our environmental performance

  • Raising awareness and encouraging participation among members and employees in environmental matters

  • Spreading and sharing knowledge across the business through environment champions in all Departments

  • Ensuring purchasing decisions are mindful of sustainability and environmental impacts

  • Working with partners, businesses and other organisations who demonstrate commitment to reduce their own environmental impact

  • Increasing understanding of environmental issues, ensuring everyone has access to accurate information, which encourages sustainable lifestyle changes and encourages focussed voluntary action

  • Minimising waste by evaluating operations and ensuring they are as efficient as possible

  • Minimising vehicle emissions through the selection and use of vehicles and restricting work related travel to essential journeys

  • Actively promoting recycling both internally and amongst customers and suppliers

  • Sourcing and promoting a product range to minimise the environmental impact of both production and distribution

  • Supporting carbon reduction initiatives through continual review of operational efficiency, transport, procurement and energy use.

 

WASTE MANAGEMENT AND RECYCLING

In this business:

  • All waste will be segregated into appropriate waste streams prior to disposal

  • All waste appropriate for recycling (ie plastics, paper, tins and glass) will be placed in the appropriate receptacles ready for collection by recycling services

  • All other domestic waste will be placed inside black waste bags

  • All “sharps” will be placed inside purpose-built sharps disposal boxes in accordance with the clinical waste policy

  • All electrical waste will be disposed of according to the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Regulations (WEEE)

  • Discarded furniture and office equipment will be offered to charity for recycling or reuse

  • The organisation intends to comply with all current national and local waste management laws, policies and procedures. The organisation will liaise regularly with the appropriate local authority department to regularly review its performance in this area.

NET ZERO COMMITMENT

Just Fire Doors recognises the importance of addressing climate change and is committed to supporting the UK Government’s target of achieving Net Zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. As part of our commitment to sustainable business operations, we will continue to identify, monitor and reduce the carbon emissions associated with our activities, including vehicle use, energy consumption, procurement and waste generation. We are committed to:

  • continually improving the environmental performance of our operations

  • reducing fuel consumption and transport-related emissions through efficient planning and vehicle management

  • increasing the use of digital systems to reduce paper consumption and unnecessary travel

  • minimising waste and maximising recycling opportunities

  • working with suppliers and contractors who share our commitment to sustainability

  • reviewing carbon reduction objectives annually as part of our environmental management processes.
